A big thanks to all you nice folk that came down to support your local live music event last night at The Musician Leicester. The 2nd Chickenhead Lounge was a great night and good to see you all there. Thanks go to Mr Plow, a great set of twang, trem, death & despair, love it!… The Blueswamp Southern boys rounded off the night with an excellent set full of slide, harp and stomp. We had a blast opening the event and finally as always we say well done to Malc Randall for making us all sound so good, he really does know how to twiddle those knobs ! Hope to see y’all at the next event.

Studio update

Last Sunday we were cold & very tired after Saturday’s late spot at a private shindig in downtown Syston, but we dragged ourselfs from our warm pits to head down to Yellowbean Studios Leicester. It was a good day, 3 new original ’2badJim’ songs done but not yet dusted.. sounding real nice, the new OCR album gets ever nearer to a release date. New tunes: ‘When the mornin comes’… ‘Leave now by the kitchen door’...’Rollin on the deep blue sea’..

OCR confirmed for Upton

The OCR is confirmed for the Upton Blues Festival ! The boys will be on the Acoustic Stage on Saturday 21st July at 4:45 and will shake the event with their new songs and old favourites. Put it down on your 2012 Summer Festival diary!

The Upton Blues Festival is a remarkable event – its size, the quality of its music, largely self funding and run completely by volunteers, completely taking over this lovely riverside town. Just remarkable – so enjoy it and support it.

Back into confinement

Yeah, yeah… we know you are all queueing for the OCR album, but you can’t expect people to work too hard with this cold… Anyway, after a few delays we are back at Yellowbean Studios this weekend to record a couple more songs to complete the new OCR album.

Next Leicester gig is Wed 22nd Feb, The Chickenhead Lounge at The Musician with Mr Plow and Blueswamp Southern, 3 live bands and it wont cost you a cent to get in.. FREE ENTRY all night.

Saying hello to 2012

Just wondering what Father Christmas has brought to you guys…a vintage Fender amp? A brand new edition of Guitar Solos For Dummies? A pot of mud from the Dockery Plantation? Whatever it was, be sure it cannot be better than what the OCR is bringing you in 2012.

Back to Market Harborough for the Blues Festival at the Joules Yard on 22^nd and closing the month with a country Saturday night at the Bridle Lane Tavern in Leicester.

And don’t forget that the OCR album is coming out…well, well, well… it seems it is going to be a very busy year!

Saying goodbye to 2011

Last gig of the year. It was freezing cold last night at The George Inn in Brixworth. The evening started a bit slowly, but it didn’t take long to warm up when the OCR reached for their gear and shot ‘Broken Arrow’ at the audience. Slim Williams had once again the opportunity to take his fiddle to give a folk note to the legendary folk tale of ‘Charlemagne’. Filthy Rich also provided the back vocals for the song and proved that he has definitely learnt how to pronounce the name of the unfortunate rooster. A couple of covers this time: RL Burnside’s ‘Ms Maybelle’ and Rolling Stones’ ‘The Last Time’. Encore required and there came ‘Indian Territory’, by far my favourite – I think I’ve listened to the demo at least 10 times in the last couple of days and I never get tired of it. Hot stuff!

Short & Sweet

Just about 30 minutes of the OCR last evening at the Wildfire Sessions Xmas Party at The Musician, but worth every second of it. The boys went for some of their best stuff - opening with ‘Old Crow Joe’ and moving to ‘Bean Town’ and ‘Birds’ - giving the audience a taste of what is coming in the new album.
The best thing about last night, though, is that finally 2BadJim decided to take the Telecaster out of the bloody box and gave us a mighty rendition of ‘Indian Territory’ at the end of the gig.
Short and sweet is good but, honestly, I could have had more!

Between wardrobes & hats: a Sunday with the OCR

Where: Between the wardrobes and in front of the standard lamps at Joule’s Yard, Market Harborough

When: A cold Sunday afternoon

What happened: Bacon and eggs from Ian Joule’s kitchen, a quick play with all the hats and we were down to business just as the rain started. A nice relaxed afternoon, although it was effing cold. Iron Horse came down with his family, and my mate Phil. A few genuine punters sat out in the cold with us, and I think we all enjoyed ourselves. There were a couple of milestones on the road to glory - Filthy brought out his new ten pound amp, and I left the electric guitar in the box. We took the opportunity to revisit some old friends we hadn’t played in a while – ‘Rollin’ in my Sweet Baby’s Arms’ and a countryfied version of ‘The Last Time’. And also, a first sighting of two new songs, ‘Wigston Junction’ and ‘I Can Dream’. Iron Horse Hooley sat in on Broken Arrow and Ramblin’ Rose, and amazed us all in the intermission with his ‘Hoo-dley Bow’. If you want more nonsense from Tristram, be sure to visit The Wild Woodbine

Goin’Down Clyde St

NEWS JUST IN… down at the Musician on Clyde Street, assorted friends and not quite enemies spent an afternoon at the OCR live party, where DJ Sharman taped a half dozen tunes from the OCR’s North Mississippi Hill Country blues set… the evening featured a first outing for ‘Hacksaw’, and a bunch of RL Burnside numbers including ‘Skinny Woman’, ‘Goin’ Down South’ and ‘Snakedrive’. We’re holding our breath to see if there’s something we can use, but DJ has gone sick and we’re turning blue…
